Characterization of energetic 10.2-µm pulses for seeding terawatt-class CO2 amplifiers
Ya-Po Yang, Jheng-Yu Lee, Jyhpyng Wang, Academia Sinica (Taiwan), National Central University (Taiwan)
We demonstrate a novel approach to energetic picosecond 10.2-µm pulse generation
based on nonlinear mixing of subnanosecond single-frequency 1338-nm pulses and broadband
1540-nm chirped pulses in a BGGSe crystal followed by a grating compressor for seeding high-
power CO2 amplifiers. 10.2-µm pulses with an energy exceeding 30-µJ, and their fluctuation is
∼3%-rms are produced routinely. On the basis of the measured pulse spectrum and a single-shot
pulse duration measurement, performed by Kerr polarization rotation time-resolved by a streak
camera, we conclude the measured pulse width is between 2.2-3 ps.
